The Galapagos
Shaped by fire and water
Isolated by the vast stretch of the Pacific Ocean, the Galapagos Archipelago straddles the equator 1000 km west of south america. The entire area is the origin of volcanic activity and the main islands are the tips of underwater volcanoes. Evidence of volcanic activity, such as lava flow can can be seen everywhere.
The pacific was no barrier to bats and marine mammals, such as cetaceans (whales and dolphins) and pinnepeds (sea lions and relatives). Some 25 especies of setaceans, sea turtles, some species of snakes and small lizards, large land iguanas, the unique marine iguanas, and giant tortoises. There are 28 endemic species of birds and 16 sub species, pelicans, albatros and galapagos pinguins, flightless cormorant, galapagos hawks and 13 species of darwin's finch on the one of kind islands. There are more then 2250 species of land and freshwater invertabrates have been recoreded with 50% are endemic, 400 species of fish with 10% endemic.
These are only the few reasons why you should visit these enchanted islands.
